Cal State Apply for Transfer Students
For a list of Academic Program Impaction, please choose the CSU campus you are interested in and then click on Applicant Level: Upper-division Transfers
The priority deadline for students to submit a Transfer Success Pathway agreement that will guarantee admission to a CSU for a future term is on October 31st. They can submit an agreement via the Transfer Planner.
I will also be hosting virtual drop-in sessions if students need help submitting agreements or have general TSP questions. You will find the dates below and this is the link they will use: https://calstate.zoom.us/j/81018205738
- Tuesday, October 14th from 4:00 – 5:00 PM
- Thursday, October 30th from 2:00 – 3:00 PM
Please note that some of our campuses will remain open for agreements until November 30th. Please see chart below:
Students enrolling in a California community college this fall could be eligible for a dual admission program to the California State University.
The Transfer Success Pathway (TSP) program is designed to increase access to any of the CSU’s 23 universities. If academic, financial or personal hardships prevented you from attending the CSU in the past, this program could help you earn your degree at the CSU.
You are eligible for the TSP program if you are enrolling in a California Community College and have not earned any college credit since completing high school or earning a GED.
- If you are taking college courses in the summer immediately following your high school graduation, you’re still eligible for TSP.
- If you have taken dual enrollment coursework while in high school, you’re still eligible for TSP.
Eligible students can apply to the program to:
- Enter into an agreement with the CSU and receive guaranteed admission to the degree program and campus of your choice. Please note:
- You must meet all TSP requirements within three years.
- Available degree programs vary by each CSU.
- Receive personalized guidance from CSU representatives to create an educational plan that will help you transfer in three years or less.
- Map out your coursework using the CSU Transfer Planner portal to ensure you’re on track to earning your degree.
CSU Minimum Transfer Requirements:
- Written Communication - ENGL C1000 or ENGL C1000H (formerly ENGL M01A or M01AH)
- Oral Communication - COMM C1000 or COMM C1000H (formerly COMM M01 or M01H)
- Critical Thinking - COMM M07, M25; ENGL M01B/H, ENGL C1001 or ENGL C1001H (formerly ENGL M01C or M01CH), PHIL M05, M07, M09
- Math - CS M155; MATH M05, M06, M07, M10, M11, M12, STAT C1000 or STAT C1000H (formerly M15 or M15H), M16A, M16B, M21, M25A/H, M25B, M25C, M31, M35
NOTE: Some AP scores of 3 or higher meet the Math requirement. (see CSU GE for more information)
- Complete at least 60 transferable semester units with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The major, campus, and/or applicant pool may require a higher GPA due to competitive or high-impact campuses or programs..
- Along with general education (GE), fulfill your major's requirements for transfer. Visit www.assist.org to view specific major requirements. To satisfy GE, utilize CSU GE or IGETC.
To make yourself most competitive, you should complete the above requirements:
a. No later than the end of the spring prior to your admissions in the fall,
b. No later than the end of summer prior to your admissions in the following spring semester or winter quarter
Students transferring to CSU have the option of completing the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) starting Fall 2025, the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education (CSUGE) Certification Pattern.
Students transferring with certification of general education requirements are assured that they have met up to 39 of the 48-unit minimum requirements for the bachelor's degree. Students transferring without certification of general education must complete the pattern of courses required of at the CSU campus.
NOTE: It is highly recommended that you meet the above deadlines; however, campuses may vary with these deadlines so please see your counselor!

Courses taken at the community college may be used to satisfy general education requirements for graduation from CSU schools. However, such courses must be specifically identified and verified by the community college before they will be recognized by the CSU campus. This process is called certification. Students who complete all of the requirements in Areas A through E of the CSU General Education Certification Pattern are considered to be fully certified by the community college. It should be pointed out that in addition to the community college coursework at least three more general education courses must be completed in the junior/senior years at the CSU campus.
CSU GE Breath certification must be requested by students during an academic counseling appointment. When the request for sending their final transcript to the CSU campus is made, please verify that it has been placed on your official VCCCD transcript. If the certification has not yet been conferred by our Admissions and Records Office at this time, you may need to order another Official copy once it has been completed.
Please be advised that students starting college in Fall 2025 will now use the Cal-GETC in place of the CSU GE Breadth.
You've been admitted to the California State University — congratulations!
Once you've been offered admission, you'll need to let the campus know you've accepted their offer. Visit the admitted student website for your CSU campus to learn more about important deadlines and next steps. Please monitor your email for important information from the CSU.

COMMunity and Academic Pathways for Student Success CAPSS helps first-time transfer students complete their degree in two years by:
-
Placing students in cohorts to create a sense of connection and belonging on campus.
-
Creating an accountability plan for graduation within two years or less.
-
Placing students in one of two academic pathways relevant to their career aspirations: The “Applied” pathway is for students who are interested in corporate work (e.g., marketing, human resources); The “Advocacy” pathway is for those interested in non-profit and social justice work (e.g., education, law).
-
Providing each student with personalized advising, including course schedules throughout their time at CSUN.
-
Reserving seats and facilitating enrollment for participating students. This helps ensure students will not have to delay graduation because they could not get a COMS class they need to graduate.
-
Providing a combination of online and face-to-face courses for optimal flexibility to manage outside responsibilities (e.g., work and family).
-
Offering regular and frequent advising to progress toward the degree.
-
Providing faculty mentorship for CAPSS students to cultivate relationships with their faculty, staff, peers, and administrators.
-
Offering regular and frequent access to academic services (i.e., tutoring, study groups) to help students maintain good grades.
In order to be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
-
Accepted to attend CSUN in the Fall
-
Be a Communication Studies major
-
Be a first-time transfer student
-
Hold and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.2 or higher
-
Be willing to take courses assigned by CAPSS advisers (including summer and winter, if needed); attend community-building and career coaching events; and attend advising sessions with advisers.
-
Students will participate in mandatory community-building and career coaching events, as well as advising sessions throughout the academic year. Participating in these events and advising sessions are key to community building and academic success. There are usually three events in a given semester.
More information about the program, including frequently asked questions and the online application can be found below and on our CAPSS website. Applications are due May 10th.
