The Moorpark College Choral and Vocal program (MCCV) offers a diverse selection of courses and performance opportunities to train both the amateur eager to learn new skills, and the next generation of professional vocal musicians.
Students in the Music Major (Voice) program have the opportunity to thrive in a cross-collaborative environment by participating in large-scale choral/orchestral masterworks, small ensembles, vocal techniques classes, individual applied instruction, and classroom learning.
The Choral & Vocal Program believes that music is a universal language that connects all walks of life. This belief is fostered in regular domestic and international travel. The ensembles have toured Italy where they performed at St. Peter's Basilica, Spain where they performed in renowned venues in Madrid and Córdoba, and Central Europe where they performed at Matthias Church in Budapest. The ensembles have also traveled to cities such as San Diego, San Francisco, Redwood City, and Orlando for workshops and festivals.
Students in the Choral and Vocal program will learn from accomplished and award-winning faculty, dedicated staff, and their fellow colleagues. Upon successful completion of the AA-T in Music, many of our students have transferred to continue their advanced studies in music at renowned schools and conservatories across the country with substantial scholarships, to include: CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, Oberlin Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, Florida State University, UCLA, USC, UC Santa Barbara, and California Lutheran University. Moorpark College Choral & Vocal Program alumni can be seen in theatrical productions, recording studios, and concert halls across the country.
Our 2020 graduating class received a total of $197,000 in scholarship offers with 80% being first-generation college students.
Students in the Music Major (Applied Voice) program engage in rigorous musical training through performance of diverse solo and ensemble repertoire, private and group voice technique instruction, and classroom learning. Students come to the program with various goals ranging from the aspiring choral music educator, to the solo vocal performer, to individuals who have the desire to make rigorous musical training the central focus of their undergraduate education. The Music Major is a two-year AA-T degree that requires full-time study. Upon completion of the degree, students transfer to a 4-year institution to complete their Bachelor of Arts in Music or Bachelor of Music in Voice.
Our students have a 100% transfer rate, and most students receive substantial scholarship offers. In 2020, our students received a total of $197,000 in scholarship offers. This is testament to the world-class training you receive at Moorpark College.

A diverse community of students who are able to explore choral singing in a welcoming environment. No prior singing experience is necessary to be a part of this fun-loving ensemble! Students in Concert Choir perform life-changing music all while forming lifelong friendships. Students from all majors call Concert Choir their home.

An advanced and inclusive family of vocal musicians. Students work together to bring a diverse array of challenging choral repertoire to life all while developing leadership skills. In this ensemble, students discover how to use their unique vocal instrument to positively contribute to a community of voices.

Year-Long Commitment
An auditioned and lively group of musicians dedicated to pop a cappella and jazz. This ensemble provides ample leadership development and creative freedom for students. The ensemble also provides upbeat performances for the college community and beyond, and participates in intercollegiate competitions.
Overview: The MUS M13A-D series is for students who desire to improve all aspects of their voice from fundamental techniques to range and stage presence in a safe and supportive class setting. With four levels available, students can explore ample repertoire, and truly refine their voice at their own pace. Designed for both majors and non-majors. Students with serious desire to develop their singing voice are strongly encouraged to take all four semesters in the series.
In MUS M13A, students develop their singing ability, including correct posture, breathing techniques, voice placement and resonance, vowel production, diction, range extension, and performance. Repertoire includes familiar, traditional, art songs, and selections from musical theater. Designed for both majors and non-majors.
In MUS M13B, students continue and expand their development of vocal potential to correct faulty singing and to lay foundation for proper vocal production. Emphasizes vocal exercises as well as material sung in English, Italian, and German. Designed for both majors and non-majors.
In MUS M13C, students continue development of proper vocal production. Emphasizes vocal exercises as well as English, Italian, German, French, and Spanish art songs and opera and oratorio literature. Designed for both majors and non-majors.
In MUS M13D, students further expand their vocal development through study and performance. Includes more challenging material, emphasizing operatic and oratorio literature as well as more difficult art songs. Designed for both majors and non-majors.
New Student FAQs
If you are not pursuing a music degree but just want to sing in choir, MUS M10: Concert Choir is your best option. There is no audition, and everyone is welcome! To sign up, simply register like you would for any other course. MUS M10 is a 1-unit course.

The MCCV Program is aware that you have lives outside of school. For those in MUS M10: Concert Choir, the time commitment outside of our regular rehearsal schedule is very minimal. It is typically one performance per semester which means there will be one evening rehearsal and one evening performance outside of regular rehearsal time.
For those in the advanced ensembles, there are additional commitments outside of regular rehearsal time due to competitions, travel, festivals, and workshops.
