Chronic Yeast Infection
Chronic yeast infection is an abnormal overgrowth of the
organism Candida Albicans, which can create disabling physical
symptoms. If not attended to, Candida can become so
entrenched that it spreads throughout the body, becoming
a systemic infection which is more difficult to eliminate.
It is believed that most of the ill effects of candida are
from the 75+ known toxins it produces which spread throughout the
body via the bloodstream creating a variety of symptoms.
Chronic yeast infection begins in the gastrointestinal tract, many times due to
the excessive use of antibiotics and/or steroids. The antibiotics upset the natural
balance of intestinal flora which allows the Candida overgrowth to spread. It can become
so invasive that it breaks down the intestinal wall and allows toxins in to
circulate through the bloodstream (also called "leaky gut syndrome") causing numerous
uncomfortable symptoms like...
- bad breath
- gas and bloating
- diarrhea
- finger and toenail Fungus
- infections
- dizziness
- depression
- lethargy
- poor concentration
- impaired memory
- digestive problems
- spots before the eyes (floaters)
- headaches
- joint pain
- oral thrush
Chronic yeast infection has long been recognized in people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of systemic candida are varied and diverse. This fungal related complex manifests itself primarily in five areas of the body.
- The Digestive System where symptoms include bloating, gas, cramps, alternating diarrhea with constipation, and allergies to food.
- The Nervous System where symptoms include abnormal fatigue, anxiety, mood swings, drowsiness, memory loss, depression, insomnia and mental fogginess. It has been theorized that in extreme cases, hallucinations and violent behavior can occur.
- The Skin where symptoms include hives, psoriasis, eczema, excessive sweating, acne, and nail infections.
- The Genito-Urinary Tract in men, common symptoms include chronic rectal or anal itching, recurrent prostatitis, impotence, genital rashes, jock itch and loss of interest in sex.
In women, common symptoms include PMS (depression, mood swings, bloating, fluid retention, cramps, craving for sweets, headaches prior to menstruation), recurrent bladder or vaginal infections, and a loss of interest in sex.
- The Endocrine System an intimate relationship exits in the body between the immune system, the nervous system and the endocrine system (glandular system- adrenal glands, pancreas, parathyroid, pineal gland, pituitary gland, male and female sex glands, thymus and thyroid gland). The thyroid and adrenal glands in particular may be involved. It is not uncommon to find that victims of both hypo and hyperthyroidism, especially the auto-immune variety, are linked to fungal overgrowth.
While this condition predominately affects women, men
are also affected since it is easily tranferred to partners
and antibiotic use is also common with men.
