Antidepressants and Weight Gain
Antidepressant Drugs:
Heart Disease and Diabetes Warning
Never in my recollection have so many well known and respected health organizations banded together to condemn the over-prescription of patented well known drugs that are risky and mostly needless medications.
In a recent issue of the periodical Diabetes Care, The American Diabetes Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (that is quite a list!) all joined forces to sound the alarm about this class of drugs. This integrated effort marks the first time that such a wide body of medical organizations have joined together for a common cause and strongly warned against this class of drug.
This is almost an earth shattering event for which you had better pay close attention!
Antidepressants and Weight Gain
More and more, antidepressants are being prescribed for the "depression" that normally occurs in post-menopausal women and men over 55 whose testosterone levels are declining. (For these conditions for most men and women, nutritional growth hormone stimulants to release your own natural growth hormone are way better and safer [no side effects] than antidepressants.)
Conventional doctors have even taken this craze one step further by prescribing another class of mind-regulating drugs called atypical anti-psychotics because these drugs are thought by most conventional doctors to be among the best courses of treatment for mild to moderate levels of dementia associated with Alzheimer's disease. (They learned this from the drug companies, therefore, it must be true.)
What's wrong with this is that the four major medical organizations banded together in making a simultaneous announcement to the effect that these atypical anti-psychotic drugs contain significant risks of obesity, blood lipid imbalances, and adult-onset (type II) diabetes. All of which increase the risk of developing heart disease leading to greater risk of heart attack or stroke and death!
The same drug companies who sell you the atypical anti-psychotics drugs are only too happy to also sell you the drugs that supposedly take care of the side effects you begin to suffer from as a result of taking these drugs.
Conventional doctors appear to have no problem writing multiple prescriptions for you which have nothing to do with the original problem but which are needed to counter the side effects of the original drug that he/she prescribed.
They'll do anything to keep you happy!
Now where does the FDA fit into all of this? In 2003 the FDA issued a directive ordering the drug companies to post the list of side effects on their labels, and guess what? The drug companies have refused to do so. And that is the reason the above listed medical organizations went public with the alarming side effects information.
And what has the FDA done about the drug company's refusal to list these life threatening side effects? Nothing! If this isn't evidence of who's running the show between the drug company/FDA marriage, I don't know what is!
Time and time again the FDA demonstrates how "into bed" they are with giant businesses in relation to bad food and drugs and not with the likes of you and me. This is all the more reason to take good nutritional supplements and eat healthy so that you don't need to rely on the FDA and their poor food and drug recommendations.
